Antique Baluch Main Carpet, Superb Early Example, Possibly Timuri, Circa 1860/70.

Description

Size: 11ft 9in x 6ft 7in (357 x 200cm).

Antique Timuri or Baluch main carpet, with superb colour and kilim ends with chevron design.

Circa 1860/70.

A good main carpet with classic repeat 'tree of life' design, this is known as 'kalam donneh' or 'pencil box' design in Afghanistan. The border is of the meandering vine design. The rug has excellent colour with a warm madder red along with indigo blue and aubergine. Good complete long kilim ends with chevron design decorated with a band of weft work.

The rug is in fair condition with wear, heavy in places as can be seen in the images, there are also some historic old repairs.

The rug is suitable for light domestic use. A Timuri / Baluch main carpet of good age with superb colour.
