This antique French weightlifter statue which is of a male athlete standing by a dumbell and 20 Kilogram iron weight has wonderful detail and dates from the late 19th century.
This large strongman figure is made of a bronze patinated cast metal with bronze highlights, is a heavy weight and has a raised square base which is inscribed with the name of BouRet (for Eutrope Bouret).
Eutrope Bouret was a French sculptor who exhibited in Paris, France regularly and was commissioned to sculpt the tombstone bust of the popular French novelist and fellow sculptor Alexis Bouvier.
Material: Cast metal.
Marked: Inscribed with the name of BouRet (for Eutrope Bouret).
Dimensions: Width: 22.5 cm (9''). Depth: 13.5 cm (5 1/4''). Height: 45.5 cm (18'').
Weight: 3.948 kg.
Condition: Excellent condition with only very light signs of use in keeping with age. Some light marks, light scratches and general wear.
