Farnham Antique Carpets has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Silk rugs always change colour from one end to the other quite dramatically, as does this rare piece.

This colour palette is a typical array of dyes for these elegant silk rugs from Fereghan (Farahan) in Western Persia. The silk glistens beautifully when the light catches it. Ideal to be used hung on the wall as a work of art as it is, or on the floor in a low traffic area such as bedroom. The condition is good with some signs of lower pile in areas and a couple of old repairs, but structurally very good for a rug over 140 years old. Please view the additional 11 images to see the rugs pile up close.
