Charlie Johnson Payne, Snaffles (British, 1884-1967)

'Forrard Forrard Forrid!', Christmas card, circa 1938, signed and inscribed ‘Dear Dick’ and ‘from us both. Snaffles’ in ink around ‘A Happy Christmas And Good Going In 1939’ in print, printed and hand coloured, in a later mount and a later ebonised frame.

In his later years, Snaffles turned his hand to Christmas and Greetings cards; some reminiscent of his earlier print subjects, all typically characterful, and with a certain charm.
