A beautiful and sensitive study of a country girl by William Feron.
William Feron was born in 1858 in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of the famous jeweller Ludwig Constantin Feron, owner of Möllenborgs, the largest jewellry firm in Sweden. William first studied art at the Tekniska Skolan and then at the Art Academy in Stockholm. In 1880, he travelled to Paris, working in the city for most of the decade. William exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1882 and 1885. In 1889, he exhibited at the Exposition Universelle. William Feron is regarded as one of the first Swedish artists influenced by the Impressionist Movement. His work, ''Spring in Paris'' is in the collection of The Gothenburg Museum of Art in Sweden (biography of the artist courtesy of Bonhams, where a work by the artist sold in 2016 for £7500).
Our oil on panel measures 30 x 23 cm and is signed or annotated at the verso, where it is also dedicated to ''Mr Edwards''. Presented in its original frame, the overall size is 38.5 x 32 cm. Both panel and frame have a slight warp but are in good condition.
