Antique tribal rugs were woven by nomadic and village populations, predominantly in regions such as Persia, using traditional geometric motifs and natural dyes that reflected the weavers cultural heritage.

These rugs are typically crafted from hand-spun sheeps wool for the pile, warp, and weft, constructed using symmetrical or asymmetrical hand-knotted techniques over vertical looms.

Authentic pieces can be identified by irregularities in the weave, natural abrash colour variations in the wool, hand-spun yarn characteristics, and the use of traditional natural or early synthetic aniline dyes.

An antique tribal rug adds texture and rich colour to contemporary spaces, working effectively as a grounding floor element over hardwood floors or layered on top of larger neutral jute carpets.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional washing by a specialist in antique textiles, and avoiding direct, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight to prevent fading.
