Antique Victorian 4 Drawer Walnut Davenport Desk.A Lovely period restored davenportWe are delighted to offer for sale this superb condition rare early Victorian (circa 1850) figured Walnut Davenport desk, which we have sympathetically restored. This stunning original Davenport desk features ornate Boxwood marquetry inlays and stringings in a floral design to the top stationary compartment, writing surface, frieze and kneehole back incorporating ornately carved shaped bracket supports and columns. This very usable and compact desk has a lift up fitted stationary compartment with lockable lid. The sloped writing surface features a brand new Black gold tooled aniline leather skiver of the highest quality which we have replaced as part of the restoration. Lifting the lockable writing surface reveals a striking fitted fiddleback Maple veneered interior with 2 drawers and 2 dummy drawers, complete with its small ebonised knobs.The desk also has 4 deep quality dovetail constructed smoothly operating drawers on the right side and dummy drawer fronts on the left. This very versatile, functional writing desk is well suited to laptop use as it has a lift up lid with a lockable storage compartment to store the laptop and a leather skiver slope to aid writing or even typing on as the slope is a more comfortable position to type. The desk is also polished on the back enabling this desk to look at home and elegant placed almost anywhere in a room. The desk stands on its 4 lovely bun feet which conceal its original brass castors on white porcelain wheels, typical of early Victorian items. This desk is complete with all of its original locks which are all operational with 3 keys, one of which locks the drawers, one locks the stationary compartment and the third locks the lid.We have sympathetically restored this item maintaining original patina and carefully waxing this item to enhance the French polished finish and preserve it for many years to come.Please note;...
