Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Empire style enfilade from 1920 is a long sideboard crafted from bleached walnut with an off-white painted finish and a dark marble top. The piece stands on turned columnar legs with small decorative collars and rounded feet, punctuated by symmetrical panel doors with delicate brass escutcheons and a central ormolu plaque on the top drawer. Simple linear mouldings frame the doors and drawers across the wide face of the cabinet, offering a restrained classical elegance without elaborate carving. Measuring 93 cm high, 221 cm wide and 57 cm deep, it provides substantial surface and storage capacity for a dining room, hallway or spacious living area. It serves as a practical storage credenza for tableware, linens or everyday items while displaying decorative objects on the smooth stone surface.

FAQs

A French Empire style enfilade is a long, low sideboard featuring neoclassical symmetry, classical columns or pilasters, and often topped with marble or stone. Originating in early nineteenth-century France, these cabinets typically incorporate architectural proportions and brass fittings.

Empire furniture traditionally utilised heavy hardwoods such as mahogany, cherrywood, or walnut, frequently accented with marble tops and cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts. Modern variations or restored pieces often feature painted or lime-washed timber finishes.

Look for structural characteristics such as classical column legs, symmetrical panel doors, heavy marble slabs, and brass mounts inspired by Roman or Egyptian motifs. Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-forged hardware, and solid oak or pine secondary woods.

A French Empire enfilade serves as a focal statement piece in a dining room, hallway, or living area. Balance its substantial proportions by pairing it with contemporary artwork overhead or minimal modern ceramics displayed on the marble surface.

Dust painted surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical sprays that degrade painted finishes. Clean marble tops immediately after spills using pH-neutral stone cleaner to prevent staining and etching.
