We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A French commode is a traditional low chest of drawers originating in France, typically featuring decorative wood veneers, brass mounts, and often a marble top.

These pieces generally utilise a solid secondary wood carcass, such as oak or pine, overlaid with fine decorative veneers like walnut or mahogany, and often incorporate hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the construction joints, timber oxidation, hand-forged or cast hardware, and natural wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

Pairing a classic wooden commode with modern abstract art or minimalist lighting creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich textures of the antique wood.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural waxes.
