Dating to the last quarter of the 19th century, this Heriz carpet from North-West Persia has several outstanding features. The soft palette and interesting variety of colours such as an apricot, greens, yellows and light blues, are quite exquisite. The design is very unusual, with a small central stylised blossom surrounded by large scale lanceolate leaves and other stylised floral ornaments. The overall impression is harmonious and stylish. Note also the beautifully drawn sapphire border with a repeating stylised blossom and meandering vine design. Cherished over the generations, this carpet has survived in very good condition with only minor signs of wear or restoration.
