Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE REGENCY ERA:
Hand-cut dovetails with slender pins on drawer linings: cabinet work before machine cutting.
Bold bobbin-turned bead mouldings around pedestals: Regency taste.
Vigorous carved lion paw feet on the pedestals: early nineteenth-century neoclassical design.
Thick flame mahogany veneers across the door panels: early hand-sawn veneer cutting.
Carved anthemion shell cresting to the backboard: Grecian revival styling.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency sideboard is constructed from deep reddish brown mahogany timbers with flame mahogany veneering, half turned mouldings, and a polished finish. The upper section includes an arrangement of drawers beneath a shaped backboard centred with a carved shell cresting, flanked by two stepped pedestal top surfaces. The lower section comprises matching cupboards enclosed by panelled doors fitted with original circular brass ring pulls, and the structure is raised on carved lion paw feet. The piece comes in 4 sections and measures 115 cm high, 229 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. In a modern interior, this sideboard functions as a striking focal point for a formal dining room or a spacious hallway, providing functional storage space for tableware, linens, or household items while displaying decorative objects on the broad surface. The substantial proportions and rich timber grain integrate seamlessly with traditional or transitional decor styles, bringing historical character and refined design to contemporary living spaces.

FAQs

Regency sideboards, dating from the early 19th century, typically feature symmetrical forms, pedestal ends, Neoclassical motifs such as carved crests or lion paw feet, and rich flame mahogany veneers.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, often complemented by cast brass handles, lion-mask escutcheons, and hand-carved decorative elements.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass hardware, secondary timber wear consistent with age, and distinct hand-carved decorative details like reeding or shell motifs.

Place the sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or grand reception room against a neutral or boldly painted backdrop, pairing it with contemporary artwork or minimalist table lamps to create visual contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
