FAQs

French provincial buffets originated in regional areas of France, constructed by local craftspeople to serve storage and serving functions in dining spaces, often reflecting the vernacular style of the period.

These items are traditionally crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, hand-planed panels, and pegged joints to ensure structural durability.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joinery, signs of natural ageing and wear on the timber, hand-forged iron hardware, and irregular grain patterns consistent with period hand-tooling.

A traditional oak buffet provides textural contrast in contemporary spaces when paired with minimalist surroundings, neutral walls, and modern lighting fixtures to ground the room.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the timber.
