A Fine Antique Campaign Chest of Drawers by S W Silver & Co.

19th century
Sold by Culvertons
Description

Originality, good condition, a lovely surface patina to reflect its military past, and a desirable maker - this 19th Century teak campaign chest of drawers by the London cabinet maker's W Silver & Company has all of these attributes. This lovely example of a much-sought chest was sourced from a private collection and has not appeared on the market in at least 50 years. Remarkably, even though its exterior carries the marks of history, its interior is in excellent condition. The runners and guides show little wear; it's a very useable and charismatic chest. Every handle is stamped with the maker's name and trading address, plus there are the remnants of trading. label pinned to its back. Its turned feet, which are all original, are threaded so they could be removed for transportation, and of course, the chest itself is made in two parts for the same purpose. And for further protection and strength, it retains all its original brass straps and corners. A fine antique military chest.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
