In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese root carving, or Gendiao, is a traditional art form dating back thousands of years that reached its peak during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Artisans utilise the natural organic shapes of tree roots to carve figures, deities, and animals, blending natural growth patterns with sculpted detail.

Craftsmen historically favoured dense, durable hardwoods and root stocks such as boxwood, camphor, rosewood, and bamboo root. These materials allowed for intricate relief carving while developing a rich natural patina over time.

Authentic 19th-century carvings exhibit hand-tool marks, smooth age-related wear, natural wood shrinkage cracks along the grain, and a deep patina from handling and oxidation. Modern reproductions often show uniform machine carving marks and synthetic surface finishes.

Place the sculpture as a focal accent on a minimalist console table, within an open bookshelf, or atop a mantelpiece. Pairing historical carved wood with clean contemporary lines provides visual balance and textural interest.

Keep the carving in a climate-controlled room away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent cracking. Dust regularly using a soft, dry brush and occasionally apply a light coat of natural beeswax polish to protect the finish.
