Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour bronzes are small-scale sculptural reproductions of famous classical Greek and Roman statues. They were produced in European workshop hubs, particularly Italy, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to sell to European aristocrats completing their cultural travels.

These figures were typically cast using the lost-wax (cire perdue) process or sand casting methods. Once cast, artisans hand-chased the details onto the metal surface and applied chemical patinas to achieve rich brown, black, or verdigris tones.

Authentic pieces feature sharp hand-tooled detail, visible casting seams inside hollow sections, authentic chemical oxidisation in low-relief areas, and accurate classical proportions consistent with historic museum originals.

Place the sculpture on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or within a curated bookcase alcove. Pairing classical bronzes alongside natural textures, framed artwork, and contemporary books creates visual contrast within traditional or eclectic schemes.

Dust the sculpture regularly with a clean, dry natural-bristle brush or lint-free microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive polishes or chemical solvents that strip the original patina, and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax occasionally to protect the surface finish.
