Charles Prosper Sainton’s drawings are in the V & A collection. He was the son of a violinist from Toulouse who became Professor of the Royal Academy of Music and married Helen Dolby, the famous singer. Charles Prosper Sainton was educated at Harrow, then the Slade. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour in 1887, and of the Royal Miniature Society in 1904. His metal-point drawings attracted the patronage of Princess Alexandra in 1893.
Charles Prosper Sainton (1861-1914) was known for the purity of his finished works, their simplicity and the delicacy of his compositions. This water colour and wash exemplifies those attributes.
