Charles Prosper Sainton was educated at Harrow, then the Slade. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour in 1887, and of the Royal Miniature Society in 1904. His metal-point drawings attracted the patronage of Princess Alexandra in 1893.
Charles Prosper Sainton (1861-1914) was known for the purity of his finished works, their simplicity and the delicacy of his compositions. This water colour and wash exemplifies those attributes.
