Watercolour Portrait by J B Smith

A fine watercolour portrait of a gentleman by J.B.Smith. The work shows a young gentleman seated and leaning back in a nonchalant position. The work is beautifully done in superb detail. The portrait is signed to the lower left ‘J.B.Smith’. There is little biographical information about the artist though he appears to have flourished between 1830-1841 as a portraitist. The piece is in good condition, bright and fresh of colour with only the odd mark on the paper. The portrait retains the original mahogany frame with gilt slip, all in untouched condition with a good colour. The whole is a lovely example of the type. C.1830.
