Sevres Porcelain Bust of Marie Antoinette.

The fabulous bust of Marie Antoinette, was manufactured by the Sevres porcelain factory in the later part of the 19th century.

The backstamp clearly indicated the bust was manufactured in 1870.

The bust itself is in superb condition, Restoration free, this superb revival piece has been in the same family ownership, handed down from family members.

Sevres bisque model of Marie Antoinette, which has not formerly been on the open market.

approx 33cm tall x 19cm wide and overall depth approx 13cm

and weighs approx 2kg (1.9)

"Bisque" or biscuit porcelain, is the term for porcelain which remains unglazed.

This method was often used to emulate marble.

These busts by severe are especially detailed models and the mold sculptor shows significant attention to detail, which would have been hand finished whilst at pre firing stage.

The kilns to fire these items will have been coal and wood fuels and often pieces may show grit

or firing lines.

This model has a firing crack on the surface near the hair line, showing " but this does not detract.

It also has a small kiln frit burn mark …

The item is stable and mounted on a truly rich cobalt pedestal with gilded rims.

The backstamp clearly authenticated date and manufacture.
