Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian wash set comprises a ceramic jug and matching basin formed from earthenware with hand-painted green, cream, and pink colours, complemented by gold-leaf and gilt detailing along the scalloped rims. Fluted moulding patterns the body of the jug, while printed floral transfer motifs display detailed pink blossoms across the glazed surfaces. The ensemble stands as a decorative display piece suitable for placement on a bathroom counter. The jug measures 30 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 24 cm deep, while the basin measures 12 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 42 cm deep. The earthenware items function well as a traditional decorative element within an English Country House interior scheme, bringing period character to open counter spaces.

FAQs

Popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a jug and bowl set was a standard washstand accessory used for personal hygiene prior to widespread indoor plumbing. These sets feature a large water pitcher and a matching wide basin crafted from decorated earthenware or porcelain.

Most antique wash sets were constructed from earthenware, ironstone, or fine porcelain. They were decorated using transfer printing or hand-painted enamels, often finished with a glazed coating and gilt detailing along the handles and rims.

Authentic Edwardian pieces typically feature makers marks or registration numbers stamped on the underside of the basin and jug. They often exhibit characteristic floral transfer designs, moulded fluting, and subtle signs of age such as light glaze crazing.

An antique wash set can be displayed on a bathroom counter, a bedroom vanity, or a hallway console table as a decorative accent. The bowl can be used to hold dried botanical arrangements, while the jug functions as a floral vase.

Clean ceramic wash sets gently using warm water and a soft detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges that could scratch the glazed surface or wear off gilt highlights. Avoid submerging items with hairline cracks, and keep them away from extreme temperature changes.
