Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour gouaches are opaque watercolour paintings created primarily in Italy during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They were produced as pictorial souvenirs for wealthy European aristocrats undertaking the Grand Tour to record historical monuments, volcanic eruptions, and coastal landscapes.

These artworks were executed using gouache, a water-based paint bound with natural gum, applied to heavy paper or board. They were frequently framed with gilded mounts, black painted borders, and handwritten captions detailing the specific geographic location.

Authentic period examples display age-appropriate paper darkening, hand-lettered Italian or French titles, and characteristic matte paint surfaces. The subject matter typically focuses on well-documented classical sites, such as Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, or the Bay of Naples.

A set of six gouaches creates a strong focal point when hung together in a structured grid pattern above a console table or sideboard. Matching frames create visual cohesion, allowing historical artwork to complement both contemporary and classic interior schemes.

Gouache is sensitive to moisture and direct light, so paintings should be displayed away from damp areas and direct sunlight. To prevent fading and foxing, ensure they are housed behind UV-protective glass with acid-free mounting materials.
