How do I wire an antique lamp?

Electrical adaptation requires passing modern flex through the existing central channels of the wooden structure without damaging the carved exterior. Professional rewiring ensures safety while preserving the historic body of the piece. Many fixtures arrive already converted from their original candle-holding format. A qualified electrician can inspect older internal components to ensure they meet current standards.

Are these fixtures suitable for low ceilings?

Wall lights, sconces, and smaller table lamps operate independently of ceiling height and fit easily into standard domestic spaces. Flush-mounted options and twin-arm brackets keep illumination close to the wall. Chandeliers and standard lamps require careful measurement of room dimensions to accommodate their drop and footprint. Floor lamps and statues provide height without demanding ceiling suspension.

How do I clean giltwood lighting?

Dusting requires a soft, dry brush or feather duster to gently clear debris from intricate carved recesses and leaf surfaces. Moisture and chemical cleaners damage delicate gold leaf and aged gesso. Maintenance should avoid abrasive cloths that lift or scratch the thin metallic layers. Regular, gentle upkeep preserves the historic patina accumulated over the centuries.

What distinguishes Florentine lighting?

Florentine pieces frequently showcase ornate, scrollwork designs, foliage motifs, and multi-arm configurations finished in bright or antiqued gold leaf. These chandeliers and wall lights reflect the rich decorative traditions associated with Italian craftsmanship. Many examples incorporate polychrome highlights alongside the gilding to emphasise sculptural depth. Their distinct regional style remains a prominent feature across nineteenth and twentieth-century production.
