What defines a french style wooden bed?

These frames draw on historic continental design movements, incorporating carved woodwork, painted finishes and characteristic stylistic traits from periods like Louis XVI and Louis XV. They serve as prominent bedroom focal points, often pairing substantial timber construction with upholstered panels or decorative metal details.

How do I choose the right size?

The selection includes double, king size and emperor dimensions, accommodating various room proportions and mattress requirements. Larger frames frequently display more complex carving and parquetry work, matching grander interior spaces.

Are modern mattresses suitable for these beds?

Most antique frames accommodate standard modern mattress sizes, though internal dimensions should be checked against specific bed frame measurements. Bedsteads often require appropriate slat systems or bases to support contemporary mattresses securely within the historic wooden rails.

How do I care for the wood finish?

Wooden surfaces benefit from regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional treatment with appropriate furniture waxes or polishes. Painted or limed finishes require gentle cleaning without harsh chemical agents to preserve the integrity of the surface.
