How do I clean an antique marble top?

Use warm water and a soft cloth to wipe the stone surface clean. Avoid acidic cleaners that etch the polished finish. Dry the marble thoroughly afterwards to prevent water marks or staining on older porous stone.

Were marble tops added later?

Many stones were fitted during manufacture, particularly on French commodes and bedside cabinets designed for heavy daily use. Original tops match the exact dimensions and edge profiles intended by the original cabinet maker.

What rooms suit these bedside cabinets?

Bedside cabinets and small chests fit easily beside low modern or traditional bed frames. The stone surface resists moisture from glasses and bedside lamps. Their compact proportions also allow use as small lamp tables or hallway pedestals.

How do I distinguish Louis XV from Louis XVI styles?

Louis XV pieces feature curved bombe contours and asymmetrical ormolu mounts. The overall aesthetic emphasises organic, flowing lines. Louis XVI furniture shifts towards straight lines, symmetrical parquetry, and classical architectural proportions.
