Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George III style sideboard dates from 1880 and takes the form of a mahogany serving table with a white and grey marble top and a raised wooden gallery. The warm brown timber displays prominent flame mahogany grain across the central drawer and the two cupboard doors, which are set with oval panel inlays. String boxwood inlay provides delicate contrast along the edges of the structure, while brass backplate handles with drop pulls furnish the drawer and cabinet fronts. Supported on square tapered legs, the piece measures 87 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. In a contemporary home, the sideboard suits a dining room or living space for serving food and drinks or displaying decorative items. Alternatively, it provides surface space and storage in a hallway or a large landing. The cabinet configuration allows for concealed organisation behind the two side doors, while the central drawer holds smaller dining accessories, linen, or household ephemera.

FAQs

Marble top sideboards gained prominence during the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, combining the storage functionality of traditional mahogany buffets with a heat- and stain-resistant stone surface suitable for serving food and beverages.

These pieces typically combine solid mahogany frames with decorative flame mahogany veneers, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass drop handles, and fitted slabs of natural white or grey-veined marble.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-planing on secondary woods, hand-cut dovetails inside drawers, original iron locks, brass hardware showing natural patination, and uneven wear consistent with age.

Position the sideboard in a dining space, hallway, or living area, balancing the dark timber and white marble top with contemporary artwork above and minimalistic ceramic accessories.

Dust wood surfaces regularly and apply natural beeswax twice yearly; clean marble tops immediately with pH-neutral stone cleaner to prevent staining or etching from acidic liquids.
