The Hague School was an art movement of Dutch realists working between 1870 and 1900 who were heavily influenced by the French Barbizon School, known for capturing atmospheric light and landscapes.

Artists typically used ground pigments mixed with linseed oil applied to stretched linen canvases or wooden panels, often utilising impasto techniques for texture and subdued earth tones.

Authentification involves examining the canvas weave, stretcher frame construction, craquelure patterns in the paint layer, and signature verification under ultraviolet light.

Position the artwork on a neutral wall to let the tonal palette stand out, and pair it with simple, understated framing to bridge traditional subjects with contemporary decor.

Maintain stable room temperatures and relative humidity, keep the canvas away from direct sunlight, and consult a professional conservator for periodic cleaning.
