FAQs

A semainier is a traditional tall, narrow chest of drawers originating in France, traditionally featuring seven drawers, one for each day of the week.

These pieces are generally constructed from hardwoods such as oak or pine, often featuring a marble top and decorative gilt-bronze or brass mounts.

Authenticity can be determined by examining traditional joinery techniques, hand-cut dovetails, wood shrinkage patterns, and the wear and patination on the hardware and marble.

A painted tallboy functions well as a statement storage piece in a bedroom or hallway, pairing effectively with both contemporary and traditional decor.

Clean marble surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and a pH-neutral cleaner, avoiding acidic substances like lemon or vinegar that can etch the stone.
