The George IV period, spanning the 1820s, bridges late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics, often featuring robust proportions, classical influences, and highly figured timber veneers.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid secondary woods like pine or oak, faced with premium cabinet timbers such as flame or figured mahogany, and fitted with brass hardware.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, original brass locks, secondary wood linings, and natural timber ageing rather than artificial distressing.

Positioning such a statement piece against neutral walls allows the natural grain and rich tone of the timber to serve as a focal point in a contemporary bedroom.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically treat the surface with traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
