Eighteenth-century landscape paintings frequently focused on pastoral scenes, romanticised natural settings, and the inclusion of small human figures or livestock to convey scale and harmony with nature.

Artists of this era typically used oil paints applied to wooden panels, stretched canvas, or prepared boards, housed within heavy moulded frames made of carved wood or gesso with gilt finishes.

Authentication involves examining the ageing of the pigment and ground layers, inspecting the construction of the board or canvas support, and looking for period-appropriate framing techniques and builder marks.

These pieces provide a focal point when hung against neutral walls or paired with traditional architectural details, contrasting effectively with contemporary minimalist furniture.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and consulting a professional conservator for any cleaning or varnish removal.
