FAQs

Pastoral landscape painting gained immense popularity during the 19th century as artists focused on rural life, agriculture, and romanticised depictions of the countryside and farm animals.

These works are typically created using oil paints applied to stretched woven canvas, often framed in heavily ornamented, gilded or painted wooden frames crafted with traditional joinery.

Authentic period paintings feature genuine craquelure in the paint layer, ageing characteristics on the reverse of the canvas, and traditional stretcher bar construction without modern staples.

Pairing historical art with modern minimalist architecture creates a striking contrast, while placing it within traditional or eclectic spaces enhances the warmth and character of the room.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity and temperature levels, and consult a professional conservator for any cleaning or canvas tension adjustments.
