Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of four Georgian framed prints features stipple engravings on paper depicting child portraits with animals, including "Morning of Life", "The Age of Bliss", "The New Sash", and "The Cake in Danger". Each artwork is set within a black ebonised wooden frame with an internal gilt slip, white matting, and a glass cover. The black frames display visible surface wear and age marks. The individual pieces measure 33 cm high, 27 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. These prints suit placement above a sideboard in an English country house interior. The composition works well arranged together as a near set on a living room wall or within a traditional hallway setting.

FAQs

Stipple engraving is a printmaking technique that creates tone through small dots rather than etched or engraved lines. Popular during the late eighteenth century, it allowed printmakers to achieve subtle gradations of light and shading, ideal for reproducing delicate portraits and figurative artwork.

These prints were executed on handmade laid or wove rag paper using copper plates etched with fine dot patterns. Prints were often mounted in wooden mouldings, such as ebonised or stained timber frames featuring internal gilt slips and protective glass.

Authentic period engravings typically show a distinct plate mark impression around the border where the copper plate pressed into the paper. Under magnification, the image consists entirely of individual dots rather than modern continuous halftone screen dots or digital pixels.

A grouped set of four uniform prints creates strong symmetry when hung in a two-by-two grid configuration. Placing them above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table introduces historical depth while maintaining clean linear structure in modern spaces.

Keep paper artwork away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and foxing. Ensure framing utilizes acid-free mounting materials and conservator-grade glass to protect the paper substrate from atmospheric degradation.
