Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian flame mahogany chest of drawers brings traditional English country house character into the modern home. The 19th-century piece exhibits a rich warm brown colour across its polished timber surfaces, complemented by distinctive flame mahogany veneer patterns on the drawer fronts. Notable visual details include rounded front corners along the upper edge, small turned wooden knobs fitted to each drawer, and keyholes centered above the handles. Measuring 910 mm wide, 465 mm deep, and 880 mm high, this compact storage unit works well in a bedroom, hallway, or living room. The two over two arrangement provides practical organisation for clothing, linens, or daily accessories while occupying minimal floor space. Its classic silhouette integrates smoothly with various interior aesthetics, offering both utility and historic visual appeal.

FAQs

Popularised during the 19th century in Britain, these chests featured flame mahogany cut from the crotch of the tree to showcase vivid grain patterns. They served as staple bedroom storage pieces during the Victorian era, combining functional drawers with robust cabinetry techniques.

These chests typically feature solid mahogany or pine carcases overlaid with thin flame mahogany veneers. Drawers were constructed using hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber drawer linings, and turned wooden or brass handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, hand-planed back boards, original locks or keyholes, and subtle wear on the wooden drawer runners. Period pieces often show variations in timber color and slight shrinkage along seam lines consistent with age.

Deep timber tones provide contrast when placed against neutral or contemporary wall palettes. They work well in hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms paired with simple modern ceramics, framed prints, or neutral textiles.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain moisture in the wood. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer cracking or fading.
