Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Arts and Crafts decorative bowl dates from 1900 and exemplifies English Country House style. Made from hammered copper and glazed ceramic, the vessel presents a warm copper colour with a planished finish and blue soufflé glazed plaques. The piece exhibits a flared pedestal foot, rectangular ceramic cabochons mounted around the upper rim, and a mounted rim detail with hand-hammered texture. Measuring 26.5 cm wide, the bowl provides practical function and aesthetic appeal for display. In a contemporary home, this pedestal bowl is placed on a sideboard top to hold small decorative items or stand alone as a focal point.

FAQs

This style originated during the late 19th and early 20th century in Britain, combining hand-hammered metalwork with vibrant glazed pottery cabochons produced by maker Ruskin Pottery. The aesthetic prioritised visible craftsmanship, hand fabrication, and natural materials over mass industrial production.

These decorative vessels were beaten from sheet copper and finished with a circular or conical pedestal foot. Decorative accents were formed using high-fired ceramic plaques or cabochons featuring distinctive lustre or crystalline glazes held within raised metal bezel mounts.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-planished surfaces showing irregular hammer marks, hand-soldered seams, and natural surface patination around joints. Ceramic inserts usually display characteristic Ruskin glaze variations and hand-fitted copper retaining mounts.

A hammered copper bowl serves as an effective centrepiece on a dining table, console, or sideboard. The warm metallic surface pairs well with natural timber furniture, dark paint schemes, and organic textiles.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth to preserve the aged patina. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive metal polishes, and keep moisture away from ceramic cabochon mounts to prevent degradation of setting materials.
