This 19th-century dark brown patinated bronze sculpture depicts the winged Archangel Saint Gabriel blowing a straight trumpet horn while wearing classical loincloth drapery. The youthful figure stands on a circular integral base, raising one arm aloft and holding the horn with both hands. The Neoclassical piece displays defined facial features, curly hair bound with a headband, feathered wings behind the shoulders, and muscular anatomical detailing. Standing 69 cm high, the sculpture fits well on a mantelpiece within a gentleman's library. It brings a classical decorative element to a study, living room, or hallway surface, serving as a striking standalone art piece for traditional or eclectic interiors.

Sculptures from this period drew heavily from Greco-Roman classical forms, renaissance religious subjects, and Grand Tour influences, displaying balanced proportions and heroic posing.

Most bronzes of this era were cast using either the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting technique, followed by hand chasing and chemical patination to achieve deep brown tones.

Authentic pieces feature sharp detail from hand chasing, subtle casting seams, age-appropriate wear to the patina, heavy density, and often foundry marks or artist signatures.

Positioning a classical bronze on a marble mantelpiece, console, or stone pedestal creates a striking focal point against minimalist, textured walls.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush and periodically apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical solvents.
