This nineteenth-century Chinese hanging scroll painting depicts the armoured Daoist deity Yuchi Gong, also known as Jing De, holding a bamboo whip in his left hand. Created in the Qing Dynasty style using ink and colour on paper, the artwork presents an armoured deity figure surrounded by flowing silk ribbons and positioned against a light gold silk background fabric. Seal marks appear on either side of the central image, complemented by wooden roller end caps at the bottom. The piece measures approximately 140 cm in height by 60 cm in width. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library, this decorative wall hanging belongs above a sideboard or console table to bring traditional cultural heritage into a modern interior space.

Traditional Chinese Daoist scroll paintings depict deities, immortals, or guardian spirits from Daoist theology, rendered on silk or paper backings designed to hang vertically for spiritual or decorative purposes.

These artworks typically feature natural mineral pigments, ink, and gold leaf applied to woven silk or mulberry paper, framed by silk borders with wooden roller rods at the base.

Genuine 19th-century examples display natural silk oxidisation, pigment craquelure, age-appropriate toning to the paper, and traditional hand-mounting rather than modern synthetic adhesive bonding.

A large vertical hanging scroll serves as a central focal point suspended above a minimalist console table, within a library nook, or along an entryway wall to provide historical texture.

Keep the scroll away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, handle it with clean cotton gloves, and limit frequent rolling and unrolling to prevent fabric creasing or pigment detachment.
