The Antiques Hound has dated this Regency Silk Embroidery Picture to the Regency era.
David is accompanied by his armed soldiers and Abigail by a youth and two donkeys laden with baskets, beneath a canopy of trees in a pastoral landscape.

Beautifully detailed needlework in a warm palette of gold, olive green and brown tones, presented in an impressive giltwood frame with decorative moulded detailing. An evocative and decorative example of Regency-period silkwork, depicting a scene from the Old Testament.

The composition is skillfully executed in a variety of stitches using smooth silk thread alongside velvety chenille yarn, which adds wonderful tactile depth and three-dimensional texture to the tree canopies, ground, and foliage. Key details - including the facial features and skin tones - are delicately rendered in watercolour hand-painting directly onto the silk ground.

The picture retains wonderful, rich colours throughout the embroidery and chenille work. It is presented in a later period giltwood frame.
Condition Report: Offered in good antique condition overall relative to age and fragile silk medium. The threadwork, chenille, and ground remain strong with vibrant colour retention. As is common with painted silk pictures of this period, there are a few minor tears to the silk ground to the soldiers’ faces on the right, but the textile remains stable beneath glass. The gilt frame shows age-appropriate minor wear.
