This Georgian chest of drawers is fashioned from mahogany with visible warm brown tones, brass handles, and pine. The piece has a moulded rectangular top above four graduated drawers fitted with brass swan-neck handles and central keyhole escutcheons. The timber exhibits figured grain and a rich, warm patina, and the structure stands on shaped bracket feet. Height is 83 cm, width is 80 cm, and depth is 45 cm. Practical storage for a bedroom, hallway, or living space, this chest accommodates folded garments, linens, or daily accessories while maintaining a traditional aesthetic. The compact footprint fits neatly against a wall in rooms of modest proportions, providing a functional surface on top for lamps, photographs, or decorative objects. Traditional construction methods include dovetail joints on the drawers.

FAQs

Georgian chests of drawers typically feature symmetrical proportions, rich mahogany timber, graduated drawers, and classic hardware such as brass swan-neck handles resting on bracket feet.

These pieces were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often incorporating pine or oak as secondary woods for drawer linings and internal frames, fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic Georgian examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer bottoms with grain running front-to-back, natural wood shrinkage over time, and period-correct brass drop handles.

Position the chest as a focal piece in a hallway, bedroom, or living space, styling the top surface with modern artwork, a table lamp, or ceramic vessels to contrast classic craftsmanship with contemporary decor.

Keep the chest away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber warping, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain.
