This 19th-century mahogany bowfront chest of drawers is a grand Regency antique rendered in a dark brown timber. The case holds two short drawers above three graduated long drawers, all presenting rich flame mahogany figuring with a warm colour and aged patina. The construction incorporates spiral rope-twist pilasters flanking the facade, brass keyhole escutcheons, turned wooden knob handles, and turned feet. The chest measures Height-124 cm Width-108 cm Depth-54 cm, providing substantial proportions for everyday organization. In a modern residence, this substantial piece serves as a functional storage chest in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway, bringing period character and warmth to the interior layout.

A bowfront chest of drawers features a convex, gently curved front surface designed to add architectural interest and softness to a room compared to standard flat-fronted furniture.

Craftsmen predominantly used solid mahogany or oak for the core framing, flame mahogany veneers for decorative exterior panels, pine or poplar for drawer linings, and cast brass for escutcheons and fittings.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, signs of natural wood shrinkage, original brass lock mechanisms, and uneven timber wear beneath bases or back panels.

Position the piece against a modern neutral backdrop, pairing dark timber tones with contemporary lighting, textured ceramics, or oversized contemporary artwork to create a balanced contrast.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish degradation.
