This Queen Anne Revival sideboard dates from 1930 and is constructed from burr walnut veneer with rich warm brown tones, displaying distinctive figured grain patterns across the bow-front body and shaped top. The exterior features intricately carved floral pilasters flanking the central section, dark round drawer pulls, and a protective glass sheet resting upon the surface. Below, the piece stands upon four carved cabriole legs terminating in prominent ball and claw feet. The configuration includes a long upper drawer above twin central cupboard doors, complemented by curved side doors. Measuring 95 cm high, 183 cm wide, and 67 cm deep, the unit provides substantial storage capacity while maintaining an elegant curved profile. Within a modern interior, this sideboard functions effectively in a dining room or spacious hallway as a sophisticated focal point for serving, display, and tableware storage. The internal compartments accommodate various dining accessories, while the surface offers practical space for lamps, decorative items, or serving dishes during gatherings. The traditional English country house aesthetic blends well with both period properties and eclectic contemporary room schemes, adding warmth and traditional craftsmanship to the domestic environment.

Queen Anne style sideboards are characterised by graceful proportions, cabriole legs, and decorative veneers using burr walnut root section cuts. Popularised originally in the early 18th century and revived in later periods, these pieces feature curved serpentine or bow-front silhouettes and ornate carvings such as acanthus leaves or shell motifs.

These sideboards are constructed primarily from solid hardwood frameworks overlaid with figured burr walnut veneers. Details often incorporate hand-carved elements on the knees and feet, brass or bronze drawer hardware, and internal drawers lined with baize or felt designed to store silver cutlery.

Authentic quality is indicated by book-matched veneer patterns showing natural grain swirls, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and original brass lock mechanisms. Looking closely at the carved cabriole legs and ball-and-claw feet reveals crisp tool marks rather than modern moulded resin detailing.

A figured walnut sideboard functions well as a focal statement piece in a contemporary dining room, hallway, or living area. Combining the rich warm tones of the timber with neutral wall shades and minimalist modern artwork creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placement directly next to radiators, open fires, or unshaded windows, as heat and direct sunlight cause wood veneers to shrink, lift, or fade.
