This George IV mahogany chest of drawers belongs to the Georgian period and displays a rich warm brown colour with flame mahogany veneer. The piece features a bowfront contour and incorporates three short drawers positioned above three long graduated drawers, fitted with turned wooden knobs, keyholes, and a central tassel key pendant. The construction includes carved side columns with corner roundels, and the whole chest stands on bold spade feet with layered edge mouldings around the top surface. Measuring 108 cm high, 120 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, the chest provides capacious storage for domestic items. It serves well as a functional storage unit in a bedroom, dressing room, or living space, offering a traditional Regency design profile that integrates into period or classic interiors.

Produced during the reign of King George IV between 1820 and 1830, these chests typically feature classical proportions, flame mahogany veneers, turned handles, and bowfront or straight-front profiles.

Primary timber typically consists of mahogany, complemented by oak or pine for secondary drawer linings, brass lock mechanisms, and turned mahogany or brass handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-dovetailed drawer joints, secondary timber exhibiting natural shrinkage or ageing, period-correct brass lever locks, and hand-turned wooden knobs.

Position the mahogany chest against neutral or muted dark wall colours, styling the top surface with minimal contemporary ceramics or artwork to balance historic character with modern design.

Apply beeswax polish annually along the grain of the wood and maintain a stable indoor humidity level away from direct heat sources to preserve the mahogany veneer.
