This late eighteenth-century Georgian chest of drawers originates from England and dates to circa 1770. The solid wooden structure is finished in a warm brown tone with burr walnut veneer and crossbanded drawer fronts, showing a rich and figured grain pattern across the exterior. Details include two short drawers positioned above three long graduated drawers, fitted with brass swan-neck swing handles, brass escutcheons, and standing on shaped bracket feet. The chest measures 98 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Placed in a living room, hallway or bedroom today, the chest provides generous storage space for clothing, linens or household items while serving as a traditional surface for lamps, photographs or decorative objects. The surfaces display natural signs of age through gentle surface wear and colour variation in the timber, while the original locks are absent from the drawer facings.

During the early 18th century, particularly in the Queen Anne and George I periods, walnut became the premier timber for cabinetmaking in Britain. These chests typically feature figured or burr walnut veneers, feather-banding, a configuration of two short over three long drawers, and shaped bracket feet.

Cabinetmakers utilised pine or oak frames overlaid with walnut veneers to highlight symmetrical grain patterns. Dovetail joints were cut by hand for drawer construction, complemented by cast brass backplate handles and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic period pieces display hand-sawn drawer linings, thick hand-cut dovetails, and natural shrinkage cracks along side panels. The underside of the carcass usually reveals hand-planed timber surfaces and original bracket foot block supports.

A walnut chest serves as an effective anchor piece in a contemporary hallway, living space, or bedroom. Pairing dark wood tones with minimalist artwork or neutral walls highlights the natural timber grain while providing functional storage.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and excessive fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year using a soft cloth, rubbing with the grain to protect the historical patina.
