Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian chest of drawers dates from 1880 and is made from Oregon pine with a warm brown finish. The timber displays a highly pronounced, wavy figure grain across the front panels. The piece is arranged with two short drawers above three long drawers, all fitted with small Gothic revival brass drop handles and key escutcheons. The structure stands on a solid plinth base with stepped moulding profiles. Measuring 107 cm high by 107 cm wide and 55 cm deep, it provides substantial storage capacity while maintaining a compact footprint. In a modern interior, this chest functions as a practical bedroom storage unit for clothing and linens, or serves as a surface in a hallway or living space. The warm wood tones and distinct grain patterns suit rustic farmhouse or traditional room settings. The surface displays natural variations in colour and grain patterns typical of solid pine construction from the period. The sturdy proportions and functional drawer configuration make it a reliable everyday furniture piece for domestic use.

FAQs

Victorian Oregon pine chests were manufactured during the nineteenth century using dense imported North American pine, noted for its highly figured, undulating grain pattern and sturdy structural density.

These chests were constructed using traditional cabinetmaking techniques, including hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid pine back panels, and cast brass handles fitted to a plinth or turned foot base.

Authentic pieces feature signs of historical wear, original keyhole escutcheons, hand-cut dovetailing with uneven spacing, and natural wood oxidisation on internal drawer linings and rear surfaces.

Pair the natural warm pine tones with neutral wall colours, modern stoneware ceramics, and simple metal lighting to balance traditional woodwork with clear modern lines.

Apply a high-quality clear wax polish along the grain twice a year, clean surfaces with a dry cloth, and position the chest away from direct radiator heat to prevent timber movement.
