A campaign chest is a type of modular, knock-down furniture designed for easy transport by British military officers during the 18th and 19th centuries. These pieces were typically constructed in two or more sections with recessed brass handles and corner brackets to withstand rigorous travel.

Campaign furniture frequently utilised durable tropical hardwoods such as teak or mahogany to resist humidity and warping during overseas transport. Construction details typically include dovetail joinery, brass corner straps for structural reinforcement, and flush-fitting hardware to prevent snagging.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut dovetails, solid secondary timbers, makers marks or stamps inside the drawers, and genuine patination on the brass hardware and wood surfaces. Screws used are typically hand-slotted rather than modern Phillips-head.

This versatile piece works effectively as a low sideboard in a living room, a bedside table, or an accent chest in a study. Its clean lines and warm wood tones complement both traditional spaces and modern minimalist interiors.

Maintain antique teak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and occasionally apply a neutral beeswax to nourish the wood without altering its natural finish.
