Subject: An important early 19th-century topographical watercolour depicting the Burial Ground at Waterloo, produced in 1826, eleven years after the Battle of Waterloo. The composition shows a fenced burial enclosure with gateway, with surrounding continental architecture visible beyond — a quiet, reflective record of a site of profound historical significance.

Executed in pencil with restrained watercolour washes on blue-tinted paper, the work is characteristic of Henry William Burgess, a British artist known for his carefully observed architectural and historical views. The drawing is inscribed and dated 1826, and the reverse bears a faint pencil inscription of the artist’s name, supporting the attribution.
