Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Chinoiserie jug and bowl set comprises a tall ceramic pitcher with an angular handle and a wide circular basin, both glazed in cream and finished with dark linear rim trimming. The matching porcelain pieces are decorated with a polychrome landscape incorporating pagoda motifs, blue and green foliage, and narrow patterned borders around the upper sections. The jug stands 28 cm high with a width of 24 cm and a depth of 16 cm, while the bowl measures 13 cm in height, 39 cm in width, and 39 cm in depth. Practical for everyday use in a modern interior, this set functions well as a decorative wash basin and water pitcher display on a bathroom counter or washstand. The pieces sit firmly on flat surfaces, offering a traditional English country house aesthetic. The smooth glazed finish and hand-applied scenic details highlight the craftsmanship of the period while remaining robust enough for functional placement within a home.

FAQs

Prior to the widespread installation of indoor plumbing in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, washbasin and jug sets were essential functional items placed on washstands in bedrooms for daily personal hygiene.

These sets were typically manufactured from durable ceramics, including earthenware, ironstone, or glazed porcelain, decorated using transfer-printing techniques or hand-painted enamel designs.

Authentic pieces frequently display makers marks or registration stamps on the underside, show minor glaze crazing consistent with age, and exhibit hand-finished details around the handles and rim borders.

These ceramic items function as decorative focal points when positioned on a bathroom counter, a bedroom dresser, or used independently as a vessel for floral arrangements.

Clean the surfaces using warm water and a neutral detergent, taking care to avoid abrasive materials or prolonged soaking, which can damage surface glazes or delicate paintwork.
