FAQs

Miniature portraits originated from illuminated manuscripts and gained immense popularity during the 16th century in Europe as portable tokens of affection and status.

Artists typically painted miniatures on vellum, prepared card, ivory, or copper, using watercolour, gouache, or oil, housed within protective wooden or metal frames.

Authenticity is determined by examining the backing materials, pigments, brushwork under magnification, and the age-related patination of the framing and glass.

Display miniature portraits in gallery walls mixed with larger artworks, or place them on small easels on bookshelves and mantelpieces to add historical depth and focal points.

Keep miniatures away from direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, maintain stable indoor humidity, and avoid moisture accumulation within the sealed frame.
