This Italian still life painting dates from 1920 and follows the style of the Italian School. The artwork takes the form of an oil painting on wood, depicting a floral arrangement in an urn within a shaped cartouche frame with gilded moulding. The composition shows orange tulips, pink roses, white blossoms, and blue flowers set against a warm brown wooden background. The giltwood frame features decorative carved scrollwork profiles along the edges and corners. Measuring 71 cm high, 101 cm wide, and 3 cm deep, the board displays natural surface wear and aging consistent with its period. Placed in a modern home today, this piece works effectively hung above a sideboard in a dining room or living space to bring classical character to an interior wall.

Floral still life painting gained prominence during the late Renaissance and Baroque periods, particularly across European art centres. Italian artists frequently incorporated lush botanical arrangements into classical urns, drawing inspiration from naturalism and symbolic art traditions.

Paintings of this period were commonly executed in oil pigments applied to primed solid wooden boards or composite panels. The frames were typically constructed from hand-carved wood finished with plaster composition and gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces often exhibit fine surface craquelure, natural age patina to the painted pigments, and visible wear along the edges of the wooden panel. The back of the board usually displays age-appropriate timber darkening and original joinery or mounting marks.

A dark-ground floral still life operates well as a focal point above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table. Pairing traditional oil art with contemporary furniture provides contrast, allowing the gilded frame and floral tones to stand out.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, radiator heat, and areas of high humidity to prevent the wood board from warping or splitting. Dust gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding wet cloths or chemical cleaning solvents.
