Animalier refers to the realistic portrayal of animals, particularly popular in 19th-century French sculpture, focusing on subjects like horses, dogs, and wildlife with anatomical precision.

Most 19th-century bronzes were produced using the lost-wax method (cire perdue) or sand casting, followed by hand-chasing and the application of a chemical patination.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the quality of the casting, the depth and natural variation of the patination, foundry marks, signature placement, and the weight and composition of the metal.

This piece works well as a focal point on a study desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece, contrasting effectively against modern minimalist architecture or complementing traditional wood-panelled interiors.

Antique bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Chemical cleaners and abrasives must be avoided to protect the original historical patina from damage.
