During the Taisho and Showa periods, Japanese metalworkers combined traditional casting techniques with contemporary artistic influences, producing highly detailed sculptures that often depicted wildlife and domestic animals with naturalistic precision.

These pieces are typically created using the lost-wax casting method, utilizing a copper and tin alloy known as bronze, often finished with chemical patinas to achieve deep black or brown colourations.

Authentic pieces generally feature artist signatures or foundry marks, heavy weight consistent with solid cast metal, naturalistic anatomical details, and stable patination acquired through age.

Placed on an office desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf, a bronze sculpture adds a focal point of gravitas and texture, pairing well with neutral surfaces and minimalist surroundings.

Bronze requires minimal maintenance; dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth is sufficient. Avoid chemical polishes which can strip the historical patina, and keep the object away from excessive moisture.
