FAQs

Nineteenth-century watercolours typically feature translucent washes, fine detail, and a focus on topographical or romantic landscape subjects, often reflecting contemporary travel and picturesque ideals.

These works were created using water-soluble pigments applied to handmade rag paper or wove paper, often framed behind glass with acidic mats and wood backings.

Authenticity is indicated by genuine hand-mixed pigments, paper fiber degradation consistent with age, period framing techniques, and handwritten signatures or inscriptions verso.

Position the artwork on a neutral wall space using conservation framing, paired with subtle picture lighting to highlight the delicate tones without overwhelming the surrounding decor.

Protect the piece from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels to prevent foxing, and use UV-filtering glass during framing to avoid pigment fading over time.
