FAQs

Still life painting gained prominence in Italy during the late 16th and 17th centuries, focusing on inanimate objects such as fruit, flowers, and household items, often imbued with symbolic meaning or celebrating domestic abundance.

Traditional European still life paintings are typically executed in oil paints on stretched canvas or wooden panels, utilizing layers of pigment and linseed oil to achieve rich colour depth and subtle light play.

Authentic vintage oil paintings exhibit visible brushwork texture, canvas ageing, craquelure in the paint layer, and traditional framing techniques that match the era of creation rather than modern digital printing dots.

A classic still life painting works well as a focal point in dining rooms or kitchens, pairing traditional warmth with contemporary minimalist furniture to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

To preserve an oil painting, keep it out of direct sunlight, maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, and gently dust the canvas and frame using a soft, dry artist brush.
